Welcome to Classic Attics
Moving Up Can Be Far Cheaper Than Moving Out!
You
could be sitting under a hidden asset that has never seen the light
of day. At the moment it may only be used as a general storage area
for those forgotten photos and old toys. Yet with a little
imagination and some help from Classic Attics,
your roof space could be transformed into versatile living space.
If your family is outgrowing your home or you simply want some extra rooms, you don't need to go to the trouble of moving. A roof conversion allows you to add space without having to move (and will probably add value to your property as well). In every sense it's an investment that can pay big dividends.
There are many thousands of homes in Australia, which could have a roof conversion, often with minimal structural alterations. What's more, converting an attic is usually the cheapest way of adding floorspace to the home; the basic structure is already in place and the work involved is often surprisingly simple and straightforward.
What to Use the Extra Space for
Converted roof space can be extremely versatile. You can use it for extra bedrooms, a hobby space or for more specialised requirements such as a home office, computer room or home theatre.
Checking the Suitability of the Roof Space
Some
roof spaces are more easily converted than others and a full
assessment requires professional help. Classic Attics
will help assess the suitability of your roof space. You ideally
need 2.4m clearance. Although you may find that you can still get a
useful room from as little as 2.1m between floor and ceiling. A
quick check with a tape measure will then ensure that
Classic Attics can transform your roof space into that much
needed extra room at a fraction of the cost of an extension within
four weeks from start to finish.
Planning the Access
Works
are carried out with entry via the outside of your home.
Classic Attics will ensure the roof area is secured at the
end of each working day. This ensures minimum disruption to the
family's day-to-day life. Only minimum disruption will occur when
the stairs are installed. Working out how to fit the new staircase
is often the trickiest part of the attic design, especially in
smaller homes. Don't despair if it's not immediately obvious to you
just where the stairs should go. Classic Attics can
supply a staircase to suit your exact requirements. Also where space
is minimal a pull-down ladder system can be used to gain access to
the attic.
Velux Roof Windows
Classic
Attics use top of the range roof windows such as the
Velux double glazed system, which come in various
sizes to suit your requirements. They are a double-glazed timber
unit with toughened laminated sealed insulating glass units.
Comfort plus 74 Glazing: The outer pane comprises a Low-E coated sheet of tempered safety glass, which blocks 67% radiant heat. The inner pane comprises two sheets of heat strengthened safety glass laminated together using 0.76mm interlayer for maximum safety and 95% UV-ray protection. The glazing unit is dual sealed and filled with Argon gas for additional insulation and thermal comfort to reduce heat loss in winter. Noise reduction factor is 32 decibels.

Insulating Your Roof Conversion
Classic Attics will insulate the whole of the new roof area which includes rafters, new partitioning and between ceiling joists with a wide range of versatile insulation products available e.g. Crown wool, Rockwool or polystyrene boards for maximum coolness in summer and a comfortable temperature in winter. With the quality of insulation that is installed in your roof you will find that the whole house is kept at a cool temperature in summer and warmer in winter.
